It’s the last week of my alphabet food challenge and I had to find a “Z” food. I found Za’atar at a Farmer’s Market earlier this summer. I bought it, but didn’t use it until yesterday.
Za’atar is a Mediterranean spice blend. The one I purchased includes Wild Thyme, Roasted Sesame Seeds, and Dried Sumac Berries. I found a recipe which sounded perfect for using my newly acquired Za’atar: White Bean Salad with Za’atar from Fat Free Vegan. You can find the original recipe by clicking here.
(Terrible photography. Who took that photo anyway? Sheesh. You can find a much better photo of the salad on the Fat Free Vegan website.)
I love the taste of Za’atar and this bean salad is really delicious. I made it in the morning and let the flavors blend in the refrigerator for several hours before enjoying it with pita. I can not wait to try Za’atar with other dishes. I’m going to use it for tofu marinade and also sprinkle some on my next salad (for lunch today.) It would also be great sprinkled over Extra Virgin Olive Oil as a dip with some crusty whole wheat bread. Yummmmm.
If you get a chance to purchase some Za’atar, please do! You won’t regret it.
Cheers!

Welcome! I'm Elizabeth (aka Liz) and this is my dog, Sneakers (aka Best Running Buddy - ever!). We both love running and eating. One of us loves to cook healthy vegan meals and snacks. One of us eats pretty much anything and loves to chase squirrels. Hope you enjoy reading our blog as we run, eat and cook through life.

It looks like potato salad…only better.
